About me

Hi, I’m Taylor!

A birth doula, wife and a mum of 2 very busy boys! Abel (3) & Murphy (2)

I am based in the Orange area and offer my services to women in the Central West of NSW.

A spark was ignited in me after I had a difficult labour and delivery with my youngest boy. I had an amazing midwife and the support, love and care she offered me throughout my whole pregnancy, labour & postpartum was next level. I pursued my love for supporting women and in April 2021, I began training as a birth doula through Childbirth International. I am passionate about pregnancy, birth, postpartum and want to be able to offer that same support, love and care that I received.

My goal is to have you leaving your birth feeling empowered, loved, supported and listened to. Regardless of how your birth may play out, my wish is that you can look back on it as a positive experience.

What is a doula?

A birth doula is a trained, non-medical professional who is there to support a woman through pregnancy, birth & the early postpartum period. A doula also serves as a woman's advocate throughout the process and works alongside a woman's birth partner and her maternity care providers.

Bringing a baby into the world and becoming parents is one of the biggest things you will ever do. Pregnancy, birth and postpartum periods are an extremely beautiful, yet vulnerable and eye-opening time during your life. So, why not invest in a doula to be by your side during this life changing journey to support and guide you along your journey. As a doula, I will be there to support you, care for you, nurture you, empower you & advocate for you in whatever way you need me to.

Why utilise a doula?

Evidence Based Birth (2021), suggests that continuous labour support during childbirth may offer:

39% decrease in risk of caesarean

15% increase in likelihood of spontaneous vaginal birth

10% decrease in the use of any medications for  pain relief

38% decrease in the baby's risk of a low five minute APGAR score

31% decrease in risk of being dissatisfied with the birth experience

Additionally, a doula provides:

   - Continuity of care and a personal relationship

   - Education, guidance and support through all aspects of pregnancy, birth & postpartum

   - Numerous non-medical pain relief options during birth

   - A valuable member of your birth team, who can assist and enhance your birth partners ability to support you

What births do I support?

I currently support women in Orange and surrounds for all births at Orange Hospital and additionally home births with a midwife of your choice.

When should I contact you?

Anytime is a fantastic time to contact me!

With all of my clients it has varied greatly! I have had clients get in touch with me the day of a positive pregnancy test, at 7 weeks, 12 weeks and even 30 weeks! There is no ‘right’ time to get in touch. In saying that, the earlier the better, so you don’t miss out on a spot as each month has a limited amount of availability.

Doula Services

I offer a wide range of services and I am very flexible in terms of my clients needs.

Coffee is on me at your free initial consultation, where I give you the chance to see if I am the right doula for you and for you to be able to talk to me about your pregnancy and any previous pregnancies, ask any questions you might have, etc. This initial consult is also where we can tailor my service to suit you and your needs. There is certainly no ‘one package suits all' and for that reason, I offer a handful of options and can be flexible in what support you need or require.

I see women during their pregnancies for prenatal appointments around every 4 weeks commencing around 20 weeks. These appointments are approximately 2 hours.

I am on call from 37 weeks for unlimited birth support, including 1 - 2hrs after the birth.

I allow women to schedule postpartum appointments when they desire or as needed. I offer many different options for postpartum appointments and give women the option to choose what they feel they need at the time. These appointments are approximately 2 hours.

Currently, I offer a number of packages that all include a free initial consultation, a range of prenatal and postpartum appointments and all include unlimited birth support. Please familiarise yourself with the types of support I offer during pregnancy, birth and postpartum to see what suits you! Birth Support
pp_edited.jpg

Birth support looks different for each and every person. Some women may wish for me to be with them from the moment they feel that first niggle, others may be happy for me to come when labour is a bit more established. Only you can know when you need more support or encouragement and that’s where I come in! I will be on call from 37 weeks and will be with you once you contact me with having labour started. During this time, you have unlimited support during labour and birth. Additionally, I will stay with you 1-2 hours after birth if you wish.

Here are a few different ways in which birth support can look:

⁃    Affirmations & words of encouragement

    ⁃    Continuous support

    ⁃    Assist with breathing techniques

    ⁃    Different labour position suggestions

⁃    Support for your birth partner

    ⁃    Massage

    ⁃    Coping techniques

⁃    Offer non-medical pain relief options

    ⁃    Advocate for you

⁃    Communicate with your birth team

⁃    Discuss and work through options and decisions

⁃    Help to establish your ideal birth environment

    ⁃    Provide snacks and fluids

⁃    Take photos and videos (where possible)

⁃    Assist with first feed (breast or bottle)

Postpartum Support

qq.jpg

Just like prenatal and birth support, postpartum care and support can look very different for each individual! The level of care and support can vary depending on a few factors such as:

⁃    What type of birth they had?

⁃    How many other children they have?

⁃    Do they have a partner or are they single?

During our prenatal appointments, I always like to discuss with my clients about what they envision their postpartum journey to look like, where do they see me fitting into that, how long they ideally would like to receive postpartum support from me and what kind of things are important to them in their postpartum period.

Here are some examples of different kinds of things I can help with during your postpartum journey:

    ⁃    Breastfeeding support and assistance

⁃    Care for baby while you rest, shower, eat, etc

    ⁃    Settling techniques for baby

    ⁃    Support for your partner

    ⁃    Household duties

    ⁃    Prepare food

    ⁃    Recovery support & suggestions

    ⁃    Debrief your birth experience

⁃    Do activities with other children (if needed)

Testimonials

Early on, Taylor became an integral member of our little team throughout my pregnancy, birth and postpartum. While I was unable to be part of group practice, Taylor provided the continuity of care that I had hoped for. Taylor was always understanding of my fears and concerns during pregnancy and would always reassure me and provide education when I raised them.

Taylor was reliable and went above and beyond, from answering messages and phone calls any time of the day, to sending me instagram accounts and even accompanying me to hospital appointments! Taylor truely met and exceeded my expectations in all areas that we needed her in preparation for birth.

While due to the circumstances and being unable to be present for the birth, Taylor still provided me with the support I needed throughout the process. Taylor supported and navigated us through the decisions we had to make and was incredibly supportive and reassuring. I am proud of the choices we made and I cannot recommend her enough to families looking for birth support

Testimonials

Taylor was an amazing member of my team, not just for the birth but for the planning, the education and even post birth support. She empowered me to make my own decisions with absolutely no judgement and not be pressured by what others wanted for me. She educated me in an appropriate and professional way, making sure that I actually understood all of the overwhelming information that I was being provided.

I would highly recommend Taylor as an amazing supportive member of your birth team, someone that is completely there for the birth mother, with no pressure, judgement or personal motive.

Having Taylor work with my husband and I throughout pregnancy and birth was

definitely the best choice we made. Being our first baby, we really had no idea what to expect. She went through everything in our prenatal appoinments. From birthing positions to helping put together our birth plan. Her support, encouragement and guidance throughout pregnancy, labour and afterwards was incredible and my husband and I couldn't recommend her

Working with Taylor had a huge impact on my pregnancy and postpartum time. While Covid messed us around and Taylor was not able to be present for our birth, the support, information and care we received from Taylor was exceptional. I was reassured after every conversation and visit and her help and advice has set me up to be the kind of mother I always imagined.

If you have the opportunity to work with Taylor I can not recommend her more highly, having an advocate to support my partner and I made becoming a parent that little bit easier.
